What this removal drops

Remove PDF annotations takes one PDF and downloads one file named no-annotations.pdf. The result is still one PDF, not a zip and not a picture. The worker loads the file with pdf-lib and walks the annotation list on every page. A link annotation is dropped. That includes a link whose URI is https://example.com/keep-link. A text annotation is dropped. That includes a marker whose contents are NOTE-THREE. A form widget is kept. An AcroForm text field that says Ada Lovelace still says Ada Lovelace, and the catalog still has the form. Page text that says KEEP stays extractable. The document title stays. A page rotated 90 degrees keeps that rotation. The page count stays the same. The page size stays the same. This is not redaction. Words drawn in the page content stay words. A highlight mark is an annotation, so the mark goes, and the words under it stay when they are page content. This is not Flatten PDF. Flatten burns a field appearance into the page and then removes the form. This page leaves the widget and leaves the field value. This is not Remove PDF metadata. That page clears the info dictionary and the catalog metadata stream. This page does not touch that dictionary. Nothing is rasterized. A file that already has no annotations is saved with the same pages. Organize PDF can rotate, reorder, or delete a page. This page does none of those jobs.

The removal runs in this tab with the open-source workers. The file is not uploaded. There is no GridFS copy. Open the network panel, drop a PDF, and that file should not appear as an upload. Closing the tab drops the copy. The browser downloads no-annotations.pdf. Fitting a page onto Letter or A4 is the Resize page. The Word page at /pdf-to-word uploads.

There is no page cap on this removal. The tab has to hold the file. No account is required here. This removal does not need a pass. A day pass is $6, charged once, for 24 hours, and it does not renew. A year is $60 for 365 days. Neither charge is required to drop annotations here. The 20-page server cap is not this tool. That cap belongs to PDF to Word, OCR, and heavy compress.

An empty file stops with "This PDF could not be read." A file with no pages stops with "This PDF has no pages." A locked file, opened without its password, stops with "Expected instance of PDFDict, but got instance of undefined". Unlock PDF is the separate page. This page does not ask for a password and does not guess one.

Steps

  1. Drop the file. It stays in this tab.
  2. Set the one option on the page, if it has one.
  3. Download the result. Closing the tab drops the copy.

Questions

Do the link and the note stay?

No. The link https://example.com/keep-link is removed. The marker NOTE-THREE is removed. A form widget stays. A field that reads Ada Lovelace still reads Ada Lovelace. Page text that says KEEP still says KEEP. The page is not turned into a picture.

Is the PDF uploaded?

No. The removal runs in this tab. The file is not uploaded. Open the network panel, drop the file, and the PDF should not appear as an upload. Closing the tab drops the copy. You get one file named no-annotations.pdf. The original file on the computer is not rewritten. PDF to Word is the page that uploads.

Do the words and the form stay?

Yes. Page text that says KEEP still says KEEP. The document title stays. A page rotated 90 degrees keeps that rotation. The field Ada Lovelace stays because the widget stays. The tool does not turn the page into a picture. It does not burn the field into the page. Flatten PDF is the page that burns the field and then removes the form.

Does this removal need the $6 day pass?

No. A $6 day pass lasts 24 hours, is charged once, and does not renew. A $60 year lasts 365 days. Neither charge is required to drop annotations here. The 20-page server cap is not this tool.
