Most tools on this site keep your file on your device and never upload it. Three tools use our server: PDF to Word, OCR PDF, and heavy compress. This page says what we keep and why.

Those three upload your file to our server and delete it within 30 minutes. Your first PDF to Word file is free. After that, server tools need a $6 day pass or a $60 year plan.

Stays on your device

Tools that keep your file on your device

Your file stays on your device with every tool except PDF to Word, OCR PDF, and heavy compress. That includes merge, split, compress, organize, page numbers, watermark, crop, resize, protect, unlock, PDF to text, adding a blank page, and removing hidden details such as author and title (metadata removal). You can check this yourself. Open your browser's developer tools, go to the network panel (the list of everything the page sends), and add a file. No upload appears. When you close the page, your file is gone.

Uploads to our server

Tools that upload your file, then delete it

PDF to Word, OCR PDF, and heavy compress upload your file to our server. We use it only to do the job. We delete your file and the result within 30 minutes. OCR and heavy compress need a $6 day pass or a $60 year plan before they run. Your first PDF to Word file is free, up to 20 pages.

The free PDF to Word file is limited to one per network, such as your home or office internet connection. To track this, we keep a scrambled code made from your network address. It cannot be turned back into the address, and we do not keep the address itself. A day pass or year plan belongs to the account you were signed in to, or that we made for you, when you paid. When we delete a file, we log only its ID number and the time, not the file.

If you buy a pass, we keep your account email, your plan, its start and end dates, and the reference numbers from Stripe, our payment company. We need these to know your access has not ended. The $6 day pass does not renew. If you cancel a year plan, we will not take the next $60 payment, and you keep access until the end date. Stripe keeps the payment records. Your PDF is never part of your pass record. When a server job finishes, we keep a short record with the page count, your account email if you were signed in, and the file ID numbers. We keep it to count jobs and fix problems, and it stays after the file itself is deleted.

If you sign in, we keep your email address and the date you first proved it is yours. If you sign in with Google, we also keep the ID number Google gives us. We never see your Google password. A cookie keeps you signed in on this browser for up to 90 days. Signing out removes it. A sign-in email holds a link and a 6-digit code that stop working after 15 minutes. We keep only a scrambled copy of each.

If you sign in, we keep the tools you star and the last 12 tools you used. For each tool we keep only its name and when you used it. We never keep anything about your file.

This site does not load any ad code. Later, free pages may show an ad in the space under the tool. That ad request will never include your PDF.

The code for our browser tools is open source. You can read it at PDFCommons/workers on GitHub. It uses the MIT license, so anyone may reuse it.
