How to remove metadata from a PDF
Metadata is hidden information saved inside a PDF. It can show who made the file, when, and with which app. This tool clears it before you share the file. It removes eight details: title, author, subject, keywords, the app that created the file, the app that saved it, the created date and the changed date. It also removes the second, hidden copy of these details that some apps keep. Your pages stay the same. Text, pictures and drawings are not touched. Details saved inside a picture, such as camera data, are not removed, and neither are font names. You download one PDF named without-metadata.pdf. When you open it, the title and author are gone, not just blank. Your original file is not changed.
Your file stays on your device. It is never uploaded, so you can clean contracts, resumes and reports that are private. You can check this yourself: open your browser's developer tools, go to the network panel and add a file. No upload appears. There is no sign-up and no watermark, and when you close the page the copy in your browser is gone.
There is no page limit and no daily limit. A long PDF works as long as your device has enough memory to open it. Very large files, such as scans with hundreds of pages, can be slow on a phone or an older laptop. If your device runs low on memory, close other tabs or try a smaller file.
If the page says your PDF could not be read, the file may be damaged or may not be a PDF, so try another copy. A PDF with no pages cannot be cleaned. If your PDF has a password, you will see a message that the file is encrypted. Remove the password with Unlock PDF first, then try again. To add a password afterwards, use Protect PDF.
