How to list the form field names in a PDF
This tool lists the name of every fillable form field in your PDF. You download fields.txt, with one field name per line. Names come in the order they are stored in the form, which is not always alphabetical or the order down the page. A field inside a group is listed by its full name, so a text field called Office inside a group called Person shows as Person.Office. A group of radio buttons counts as one name. The answers people typed into the fields are not listed. This is handy when you need the exact names for another program. Use it before you fill a form with other software, or to find which field is which in a long form. Copy the list into a spreadsheet to plan your work. Open the text file in any editor, such as Notepad or TextEdit.
Your file stays on your device. It is never uploaded, and nothing is kept after you close the page. You only get the text file. That makes it safe for contracts, bank statements, medical records and other private files.

Common questions
What order are the form field names in?
The order they are stored in the form, not alphabetical order. Each name is one line in fields.txt. A group of radio buttons is one name.
Is my PDF uploaded to list its form fields?
No. Your file stays on your device and is never uploaded. You get one text file, fields.txt.
What if my PDF has no form fields?
You get an empty fields.txt, not an error. Words that are only drawn on the page, like a printed label, are not form fields and are not listed. The values typed into fields are not written either.
