What this outline drop changes
Remove PDF bookmarks takes one PDF and no other control. The download is one file named without-bookmarks.pdf. The worker loads the file with pdf-lib and deletes the catalog Outlines entry. It also deletes each outline item reached through First and Next, including a child item. The title SECRET-BOOKMARK is removed from the file, and so is a nested title. PageMode UseOutlines is removed because it only pointed at that tree. A PageMode of FullScreen stays. The document title stays Keep Title. Text that says KEEP stays on the page. A link whose URI is https://example.com/keep-link stays. The page stays 200 by 100 points. A Names dictionary stays. This is not Remove PDF info, which clears the info dictionary and leaves this outline alone. This is not Remove PDF metadata, which also clears the catalog metadata stream. This is not Remove PDF annotations, which drops links and comments. Nothing is rasterized. The words stay selectable. A file that already has no outline still saves. The media box is not rewritten. Link annotations stay on the page. pdf-lib writes every indirect object on save, so the outline objects are deleted from the document context and not only unlinked from the catalog. UseOutlines is the only page mode this tool removes. FullScreen stays when it was already set. Adding an outline is a different job.
The drop runs in this tab with the open-source workers. The file is not uploaded. There is no GridFS copy. Open the network panel, drop a PDF, and that file should not appear as an upload. Closing the tab drops the copy. The browser downloads without-bookmarks.pdf. Clearing the info dictionary is the Remove PDF info page. Clearing the catalog metadata stream is the Remove PDF metadata page. Dropping links and comments is the Remove PDF annotations page. The Word page at /pdf-to-word uploads.
There is no page cap on this drop. The tab has to hold the file. This drop does not need a pass. A day pass is $6, charged once, for 24 hours, and it does not renew. A year is $60 for 365 days. Neither charge is required to remove bookmarks here. The 20-page server cap is not this tool. That cap belongs to PDF to Word, OCR, and heavy compress.
An empty file stops with "This PDF could not be read." A file with no pages stops with "This PDF has no pages." A locked file, opened without its password, stops with "Expected instance of PDFDict, but got instance of undefined". Unlock PDF is the separate page. This page does not ask for a password and does not guess one.
Steps
- Drop the file. It stays in this tab.
- Set the one option on the page, if it has one.
- Download the result. Closing the tab drops the copy.
