What link marks leave
Remove PDF links takes one PDF and downloads one file named without-links.pdf. The result is still one PDF, not a zip and not a picture. This page has no option field. The worker loads the file with pdf-lib and walks the annotation list on every page. Only an annotation whose subtype is Link is removed. That includes a link whose URI is https://example.com/keep-link. A text annotation stays. A marker whose contents are NOTE-THREE stays on the page. A form widget stays. An AcroForm text field that says Ada Lovelace still says Ada Lovelace, and the catalog still has the form. Page text that says KEEP stays extractable. Drawn words that merely look like a link also stay. A line of page text that reads https://example.com/plain-words is not a Link annotation, so this tool leaves that line in place. The document title stays. A page rotated 90 degrees keeps that rotation. The page count stays the same. This is not redaction. Words drawn in the page content stay words. This is not Remove PDF annotations. That page drops comments as well as links. This page leaves the note. This is not Flatten PDF. Flatten burns a field appearance into the page and then removes the form. This page leaves the widget and leaves the field value. Nothing is rasterized. A file that already has no annotations is saved with the same pages.
The removal runs in this tab with the open-source workers. The file is not uploaded. There is no GridFS copy. Open the network panel, drop a PDF, and that file should not appear as an upload. Closing the tab drops the copy. The browser downloads without-links.pdf. Remove PDF annotations is the page that also drops notes. The Word page at /pdf-to-word uploads.
There is no page cap on this removal. The tab has to hold the file. No account is required here. This removal does not need a pass. A day pass is $6, charged once, for 24 hours, and it does not renew. A year is $60 for 365 days. Neither charge is required to drop link annotations here. The 20-page server cap is not this tool. That cap belongs to PDF to Word, OCR, and heavy compress.
An empty file stops with "This PDF could not be read." A file with no pages stops with "This PDF has no pages." A locked file, opened without its password, stops with "Expected instance of PDFDict, but got instance of undefined". Unlock PDF is the separate page. This page does not ask for a password and does not guess one.
Steps
- Drop the file. It stays in this tab.
- Set the one option on the page, if it has one.
- Download the result. Closing the tab drops the copy.
Questions
Does the note stay when the link goes?
The link https://example.com/keep-link is removed. The marker NOTE-THREE stays. Page text that says KEEP stays. Drawn text that reads https://example.com/plain-words stays, because it is not a Link annotation. A form widget stays. A field that reads Ada Lovelace still reads Ada Lovelace. The page is not turned into a picture.
Is the PDF uploaded?
No. The removal runs in this tab. The file is not uploaded. Open the network panel, drop the file, and the PDF should not appear as an upload. Closing the tab drops the copy. You get one file named without-links.pdf, and the Word page uploads.
Do the words and the form stay?
Yes. Page text that says KEEP still says KEEP. The document title stays. A page rotated 90 degrees keeps that rotation. The field Ada Lovelace stays because the widget stays. NOTE-THREE stays on the note. Text that merely looks like a link is not removed. Flatten PDF burns the field and then removes the form.
Does this removal need the $6 day pass?
No. A $6 day pass lasts 24 hours, is charged once, and does not renew. A $60 year lasts 365 days. Neither charge is required to drop link annotations here. The 20-page server cap is not this tool.
