What this same-size fit changes

Same size PDF takes one PDF and no extra fields. There is no paper radio, no percent box, and no page field. The worker loads the file with pdf-lib. pdf-lib 1.17 reads the media box with getWidth and getHeight, and that read does not apply Rotate. A rotation of 90 or 270 swaps those axes before the fit, so the sheet is the visual size of the first page. Later pages use that same output size. For each page it calls embedPage and draws that page on the sheet. The scale is the smaller ratio of the sheet to the source, and both axes use it, so the aspect stays. The drawing is centered. A larger page scales down. A smaller page scales up. A page of 200 by 100 points, when it is page 1, stays a sheet of 200 by 100 points. A later page of 50 by 80 points fits inside that sheet, and the output page is also 200 by 100 points. Nothing is cropped. A one-page file stays one page of the same size. This is not Resize PDF, which fits Letter or A4. This is not Resize PDF to Legal. This is not Scale PDF, which asks for a percent. The download is one PDF named same-size.pdf, not a zip.

The fit runs in this tab with the open-source workers. The file is not uploaded. Open the network panel, drop a PDF, and that file should not appear as an upload. Closing the tab drops the copy. The browser downloads same-size.pdf. Letter and A4 stay on Resize PDF. The Word page at /pdf-to-word uploads.

There is no page cap on this tool. The tab has to hold the file. There is no account on this page. This page does not need a pass. The day pass is $6, charged once, for 24 hours, and it does not renew. The year is $60 for 365 days. Neither charge is required to match page sizes here. The 20-page server cap is not this tool. That cap belongs to PDF to Word, OCR, and heavy compress.

An empty file, and a file that cannot be opened, fails with "This PDF could not be read." A PDF with no pages fails with "This PDF has no pages." A locked PDF stops with "Expected instance of PDFDict, but got instance of undefined", because the worker cannot read the encrypted page. Unlock PDF is the separate page. This page does not guess a password.

Steps

  1. Drop the file. It stays in this tab.
  2. Set the one option on the page, if it has one.
  3. Download the result. Closing the tab drops the copy.

Questions

Does this crop or stretch the page?

No. Each page is scaled to fit inside page 1 and centered. Page 1 sets the output size from its visual size. A later page of 50 by 80 points fits inside a page 1 of 200 by 100 points. The aspect stays. A small page scales up. A large page scales down. The worker does not crop. Resize PDF is the page for Letter or A4.

Does this upload the PDF?

No. It runs in this tab. The file is not uploaded. Open the network panel, drop the file, and the PDF should not appear as an upload. Closing the tab drops the copy. You get one file named same-size.pdf. The Word page uploads.

Do the words stay selectable?

Yes, when the source had standard-font text. embedPage keeps that text, so the words stay selectable. A page that says Hello still yields Hello after the fit. The tool does not turn the page into a picture.

Does this page need a pass?

No. This page does not need a pass. There is no account and no page cap on this local tool. The day pass is $6, charged once, for 24 hours, and it does not renew. The year is $60 for 365 days. The 20-page server cap is not this tool. A pass does not change the size taken from page 1.
