What this scale changes
Scale PDF takes one PDF and one control named percent. The choices are 50, 75, 150, and 200, and 50 is the default. The download is one file named scaled.pdf. The result is still one PDF, not a zip and not a picture. The worker loads the file with pdf-lib and calls page.scale on every page. That call multiplies the page width, the page height, the drawing, and the annotations by the same factor. A page that is 200 by 100 points becomes 100 by 50 points at 50 percent, and it becomes 400 by 200 points at 200 percent. Page text that says KEEP stays extractable. The document title stays. A page rotated 90 degrees keeps that rotation. A link annotation keeps its URI, including https://example.com/keep-link. An AcroForm text field that says Ada Lovelace still says Ada Lovelace. The page count stays the same. This is not a fit onto Letter or A4. Resize PDF is the page that centers each page on those sheets. This is not basic compress, and it does not downsample images. Nothing is rasterized. Words drawn with a standard font stay words.
The scale runs in this tab with the open-source workers. The file is not uploaded. There is no GridFS copy. Open the network panel, drop a PDF, and that file should not appear as an upload. Closing the tab drops the copy. The browser downloads scaled.pdf. Fitting a page onto Letter or A4 is the Resize page. The Word page at /pdf-to-word uploads.
There is no page cap on this scale. The tab has to hold the file. No account is required here. This scale does not need a pass. A day pass is $6, charged once, for 24 hours, and it does not renew. A year is $60 for 365 days. Neither charge is required to scale pages here. The 20-page server cap is not this tool. That cap belongs to PDF to Word, OCR, and heavy compress.
An empty file stops with "This PDF could not be read." A file with no pages stops with "This PDF has no pages." A percent other than the four choices stops with "Choose 50, 75, 150, or 200 percent." A locked file, opened without its password, stops with "Expected instance of PDFDict, but got instance of undefined". Unlock PDF is the separate page. This page does not ask for a password and does not guess one.
Steps
- Drop the file. It stays in this tab.
- Set the one option on the page, if it has one.
- Download the result. Closing the tab drops the copy.
Questions
Does 50 percent fit the page onto Letter?
No. 50 percent multiplies the page box by one half. A page of 200 by 100 points becomes 100 by 50 points. Choosing 200 percent doubles that page to 400 by 200 points. The aspect stays. Resize PDF fits Letter or A4 and centers the page. This scale does not crop and does not change the page count.
Is the PDF uploaded?
No. The scale runs in this tab. The file is not uploaded. Open the network panel, drop the file, and the PDF should not appear as an upload. Closing the tab drops the copy. You get one file named scaled.pdf. The original file on the computer is not rewritten. PDF to Word is the page that uploads.
Do the words, the title, and the form stay?
Yes. Page text that says KEEP still says KEEP. The document title stays. A page rotated 90 degrees keeps that rotation. A text field that reads Ada Lovelace still reads Ada Lovelace. The link https://example.com/keep-link stays on the page. The tool does not turn the page into a picture.
Does scale need the $6 day pass?
No. A $6 day pass lasts 24 hours, is charged once, and does not renew. A $60 year lasts 365 days. Neither charge is required to scale pages here. The 20-page server cap is not this tool.
