What this six-page sheet changes

Six-up PDF takes one PDF and builds a new portrait US Letter sheet. There is no paper control and there are no form fields. The download is one file named six-up.pdf. The worker loads the file with pdf-lib and draws each source page with embedPage. Letter portrait is 612 by 792 points. A margin of 36 points sits on every edge, and a 36 point gutter sits between the slots. The grid is two columns and three rows. Page 1 is top left, page 2 is top right, page 3 is middle left, page 4 is middle right, page 5 is bottom left, and page 6 is bottom right. Reading order runs left to right, then top to bottom. The next six pages open a new sheet. A short last group leaves empty slots, so the last sheet may hold fewer than six pages. pdf-lib 1.17 reads the media box, so a rotation of 90 or 270 swaps visual width and height before the fit. The scale is the smaller ratio of the slot to that size, and the drawing is centered. The aspect stays. Nothing is cropped or stretched. This is not a booklet, and pages are not rearranged for folding. Four-up PDF places four pages and can use A4. Two-up PDF uses a landscape sheet. Annotations and form fields are not copied. A page that says ONE still yields ONE.

The grid runs in this tab with the open-source workers. The file is not uploaded. There is no GridFS copy. Closing the tab drops the copy. The browser downloads six-up.pdf. Four-up PDF writes four-up.pdf. The Word page at /pdf-to-word uploads.

There is no page cap on this sheet. The tab has to hold the file. This page does not need a pass. A day pass is $6, charged once, for 24 hours, and it does not renew. A year is $60 for 365 days. Neither charge is required to place six pages here. The 20-page server cap is not this tool. That cap belongs to PDF to Word, OCR, and heavy compress.

An empty file stops with "This PDF could not be read." Bytes that are not a PDF stop with "This PDF could not be read." A file with no pages stops with "This PDF has no pages." A locked file, opened without its password, stops with "Expected instance of PDFDict, but got instance of undefined". Unlock PDF is the separate page. This page does not ask for a password and does not guess one.

Steps

  1. Drop the file. It stays in this tab.

Questions

Does six-up crop, stretch, or make a booklet?

No. Each source page is scaled to fit one slot on a portrait US Letter sheet and centered there. The aspect stays. The worker does not crop or stretch. This is not a booklet and it does not reorder pages for folding. Four-up PDF is the four-page sheet.

Is the PDF uploaded?

No. The grid runs in this tab. The file is not uploaded. Open the network panel, drop the file, and the PDF should not appear as an upload. Closing the tab drops the copy. You get one file named six-up.pdf. The Word page at /pdf-to-word uploads.

Do the words stay selectable?

Yes, when the source used a standard font. embedPage keeps that text, so the words stay selectable. A page that says Hello still yields Hello. A rotation of 90 degrees swaps visual width and height before placement. Form fields are not copied.

Does this page need the $6 day pass?

No. This page does not need a pass. A day pass is $6, charged once, for 24 hours, and it does not renew. A year is $60 for 365 days. Neither charge is required to place six pages here. The 20-page server cap is not this tool.
