What this sheet pairing changes
Two-up PDF takes one PDF and one control named paper. The values are letter and a4, and letter is the default. The worker builds a new landscape sheet. Letter landscape is 792 by 612 points. A4 landscape is 841.89 by 595.28 points. A margin of 36 points sits on every edge, and a 36 point gutter sits between the two slots. Page 1 goes in the left slot and page 2 goes in the right slot. The next pair starts a new sheet. A final odd page stays on the left and the right slot stays empty. For each source page it calls embedPage and draws that embedded page inside its slot. pdf-lib 1.17 reads the media box, so a rotation of 90 or 270 swaps width and height before the fit. The scale is the smaller ratio of the slot to the source, so the aspect stays. Nothing is cropped. This is not a booklet, and the page order is not rearranged for folding. Resize PDF keeps one page on a portrait sheet. Annotations and form fields are not copied. The download is one PDF named two-up.pdf, not a zip.
The pairing runs in this tab with the open-source workers. The file is not uploaded. There is no GridFS copy. Open the network panel, drop a PDF, and that file should not appear as an upload. Closing the tab drops the copy. There is no email field on this page. The browser downloads two-up.pdf. The Word page at /pdf-to-word uploads.
There is no page cap on this tool. The tab has to hold the file. There is no account on this page. This page does not need a pass. The day pass is $6, charged once, for 24 hours, and it does not renew. The year is $60 for 365 days. Neither charge is required to pair pages here. The 20-page server cap is not this tool. That cap belongs to PDF to Word, OCR, and heavy compress.
An empty file fails with "This PDF could not be read." A PDF with no pages fails with "This PDF has no pages." Any paper value other than letter or a4 fails with "Choose Letter or A4." A locked PDF stops with "Expected instance of PDFDict, but got instance of undefined", because the worker cannot read the encrypted page. Unlock PDF is the separate page.
Steps
- Drop the file. It stays in this tab.
- Set the one option on the page, if it has one.
- Download the result. Closing the tab drops the copy.
Questions
Does two-up crop, stretch, or make a booklet?
No. Each source page is scaled to fit its half of a landscape Letter or A4 sheet and centered in that slot. The aspect stays. The worker does not crop, and it does not downsample images. This is not a booklet and it does not reorder pages for folding. Letter landscape is 792 by 612 points. A4 landscape is 841.89 by 595.28 points. The margin and the gutter are 36 points.
Does two-up upload the PDF?
No. It runs in this tab. The file is not uploaded. Open the network panel, drop the file, and the PDF should not appear as an upload. Closing the tab drops the copy. You get one file named two-up.pdf. The original file on the computer is not rewritten. PDF to Word is the page that uploads.
Do the words stay selectable?
Yes, when the source had standard-font text. embedPage keeps that text in the drawing, so the words stay selectable. A page that says Hello still yields Hello after the pairing. The tool does not turn the page into a picture. Annotations and form fields are not copied onto the new sheet.
Does this page need a pass?
No. This page does not need a pass. There is no account and no page cap on this local tool. The day pass is $6, charged once, for 24 hours, and it does not renew. The year is $60 for 365 days. Neither charge is required to pair pages here. The 20-page server cap is not this tool. A pass does not change Letter or A4.
