What this four-page sheet changes

Four-up PDF takes one PDF and one control named paper. The values are letter and a4, and letter is the default. The worker builds a new portrait sheet. Letter portrait is 612 by 792 points. A4 portrait is 595.28 by 841.89 points. A margin of 36 points sits on every edge, and a 36 point gutter sits between the four slots. Page 1 goes in the top left slot, page 2 in the top right slot, page 3 in the bottom left slot, and page 4 in the bottom right slot. The next four pages start a new sheet. A short last group leaves the unused slots empty. Each source page is drawn with embedPage inside its slot. pdf-lib 1.17 reads the media box, so a rotation of 90 or 270 swaps width and height before the fit. The scale is the smaller ratio of the slot to the source, so the aspect stays. Nothing is cropped. This is not a booklet, and the page order is not rearranged for folding. Two-up PDF uses a landscape sheet with two slots. Annotations and form fields are not copied. The download is one PDF named four-up.pdf, not a zip.

The grid runs in this tab with the open-source workers. The file is not uploaded. There is no GridFS copy. Open the network panel, drop a PDF, and that file should not appear as an upload. Closing the tab drops the copy. The browser downloads four-up.pdf. The Word page at /pdf-to-word uploads.

There is no page cap on this tool. The tab has to hold the file. There is no account on this page. This page does not need a pass. The day pass is $6, charged once, for 24 hours, and it does not renew. The year is $60 for 365 days. Neither charge is required to place four pages here. The 20-page server cap is not this tool. That cap belongs to PDF to Word, OCR, and heavy compress.

An empty file fails with "This PDF could not be read." A PDF with no pages fails with "This PDF has no pages." Any paper value other than letter or a4 fails with "Choose Letter or A4." A locked PDF stops with "Expected instance of PDFDict, but got instance of undefined", because the worker cannot read the encrypted page. Unlock PDF is the separate page.

Questions

Does four-up crop, stretch, or make a booklet?

No. Each source page is scaled to fit one quarter of a portrait Letter or A4 sheet and centered in that slot. The aspect stays. The worker does not crop and does not downsample images. This is not a booklet and it does not reorder pages for folding.

Does four-up upload the PDF?

No. It runs in this tab. The file is not uploaded. Open the network panel, drop the file, and the PDF should not appear as an upload. Closing the tab drops the copy. You get one file named four-up.pdf. The original file on the computer is not rewritten. PDF to Word is the page that uploads.

Do the words stay selectable?

Yes, when the source had standard-font text. embedPage keeps that text in the drawing, so the words stay selectable. A page that says Hello still yields Hello after the grid. The tool does not turn the page into a picture. Annotations and form fields are not copied onto the new sheet.

Does this page need a pass?

No. This page does not need a pass. There is no account and no page cap on this local tool. The day pass is $6, charged once, for 24 hours, and it does not renew. The year is $60 for 365 days. Neither charge is required to place four pages here. The 20-page server cap is not this tool. A pass does not change Letter or A4.
