What this split packs

Split every N PDF takes one PDF and a whole number of pages. The field reads Pages in each part and starts at 1. The download is one zip named parts.zip. The first chunk is part-1.pdf and the next is part-2.pdf. The worker loads the file with pdf-lib and copies each chunk, so the page box and the text stay. It then packs those PDFs with fflate. Each part holds at most the number you typed. The last chunk may be shorter. A file of 3 pages with 2 pages in each part becomes two PDFs. part-1.pdf holds the first page and the second page. part-2.pdf holds the third page. A file of 2 pages with 5 pages in each part is one chunk named part-1.pdf, because 5 is larger than the page count and the tool does not add blank pages. A wide page that measures 200 by 100 points stays 200 by 100 points. Text that says ONE stays on its page. This is not Split PDF, which can save one file per page, a named range, or a single cut. This page does not accept a range such as 1-3, 5, and it does not accept a cut after one page. This is not Odd and even PDF pages, not Organize PDF, and not PDF to JPG. Nothing here is rasterized, so selectable words stay selectable. The original file is not rewritten.

The split runs in this tab with the open-source workers. The file is not uploaded. There is no GridFS copy. Closing the tab drops the copy. The browser downloads parts.zip. Split PDF is the page for a range or a single cut. Odd and even PDF pages keeps one side. The Word page at /pdf-to-word uploads.

There is no page cap on this split. The tab has to hold the file. This split does not need a pass. A day pass is $6, charged once, for 24 hours, and it does not renew. A year is $60 for 365 days. Neither charge is required to pack parts.zip here. The 20-page server cap is not this tool. That cap belongs to PDF to Word, OCR, and heavy compress.

An empty file stops with "This PDF could not be read." Bytes that are not a PDF stop with "This PDF could not be read." A file with no pages stops with "This PDF has no pages." A count that is not a whole number of 1 or more stops with "Enter a whole number of pages." Zero, a fraction, and a blank field all use that same sentence. A locked file, opened without its password, stops with "Expected instance of PDFDict, but got instance of undefined". Unlock PDF is the separate page. This page does not ask for a password and does not guess one.

Steps

  1. Drop the file. It stays in this tab.
  2. Set the one option on the page, if it has one.
  3. Download the result. Closing the tab drops the copy.

Questions

How many pages go in each part?

The number is a whole number of 1 or more. Each part holds at most that many pages, and the last part may be shorter. A 2-page file with 5 pages in each part is one PDF named part-1.pdf inside parts.zip. A 3-page file with 2 pages in each part is part-1.pdf plus part-2.pdf.

Is the PDF uploaded?

No. The split runs in this tab. The file is not uploaded. Closing the tab drops the copy. You get parts.zip. The Word page at /pdf-to-word uploads.

What are the files inside the zip called?

The download is parts.zip. The first chunk is part-1.pdf. The next chunk is part-2.pdf. Later chunks keep counting. pdf-lib writes each PDF. fflate packs those names. The order matches the source.

Does this split need the $6 day pass?

No. A $6 day pass lasts 24 hours, is charged once, and does not renew. A $60 year lasts 365 days. Neither charge is required to pack parts.zip here. The 20-page server cap is not this tool.
