How split PDF divides one file
Split PDF takes one PDF and makes more than one PDF from it. The form has three choices. Every page is already selected. That choice saves one PDF per page, in the order the pages already have. The first page is page-1.pdf. The next is page-2.pdf. Ranges uses a list you type, such as 1-3, 5. Each piece becomes one PDF. The first piece is range-1.pdf. A single number is one page. Both ends of a range count, and those pages stay in order. The tool does not sort the list. Cut after page uses one number, the last page of the first part. part-1.pdf holds page 1 through that page. part-2.pdf holds the rest. Each page is copied, not turned into a picture, so the size stays and selectable text stays selectable. Images are not downsampled. PDF Commons does not stamp its name, a logo, or a trial line on the result.
The work runs in this browser tab. Open the network panel, choose the PDF, and it should not appear as an upload. The new files are built here and offered as downloads. Closing the tab drops the copies. There is no copy on a server, because the file never left this computer. The form does not ask for a checkout email. The original file on your computer is not rewritten.
This local tool has no account and no daily cap. The tab has to hold the file while the pages are copied. A few dozen pages is the ordinary job. A named range cannot cover more than 501 pages. A day pass is $6 and does not renew. A year is $60. Neither charge is required to split here. The free server file is PDF to Word. That offer is one file, up to 20 pages, and that page uploads. Split PDF is not that offer.
Choose one PDF. A file with no pages stops the split, and the page shows the failure. A blank range list, a page that is not in the file, a backwards range, or a cut after the last page also stops. A locked PDF stops too. Split does not know a password and will not guess one. Open Unlock PDF first, in this tab, and type the password you already know. Unlock PDF will not crack a password you do not have. Heavy compress and OCR upload, and both say so before you drop a file. Those server jobs need a $6 day pass or the $60 year.
Steps
- Drop the file. It stays in this tab.
- Set the one option on the page, if it has one.
- Download the result. Closing the tab drops the copy.
Questions
Which choice is already selected?
Every page. Leave it selected and the tool saves one PDF per page, named page-1.pdf and page-2.pdf, in the order the pages already have. Choose Ranges and type a list such as 1-3, 5 for several groups. Choose Cut after page when you want part-1.pdf and part-2.pdf.
Is the PDF uploaded?
No. Split PDF stays in this tab. Open the network panel, choose the file, and it should not appear as an upload. Closing the tab drops the copies. The result has no PDF Commons watermark. PDF to Word is the page that uploads a file, up to 20 pages.
What does 1-3, 5 become?
Two PDFs. range-1.pdf holds pages 1, 2, and 3, in that order. range-2.pdf holds page 5. The tool does not sort the list and does not add the page you left out. A range longer than 501 pages stops. If a part is too large, compress is a separate page in this browser. Heavy compress uploads and needs a $6 day pass or the $60 year.
Do I need an account to split?
No. This local tool has no account. A day pass is $6 and does not renew. A year is $60. Neither charge is required to split here. You need one of those only for a server job such as OCR, heavy compress, or a PDF to Word after the free file.
