What this header draws
Add PDF header takes one PDF and one text field named text. The label is Header and it starts empty. The worker trims the text, then draws that string once on every page. Spaces alone stop with "Enter a header." More than 80 characters after trimming stops with "Use 80 characters or fewer." Exactly 80 characters is drawn. The download is headed.pdf, not a zip, and the file on disk is not rewritten. pdf-lib loads it with ignoreEncryption on and updateMetadata off, then embeds Helvetica at 12 points in black. The line is centered on the visual top and the glyphs stay upright. getWidth and getHeight ignore Rotate, so the worker uses the crop box and the page rotation. A turn of 90 or 270 swaps displayed width and height. A visual page at least 72 points tall puts the baseline 36 points below that top. A shorter page puts it 8 points below that top. Rotation of 180 degrees still uses the displayed top, and the crop origin is included. The words stay selectable. Text that says KEEP still says KEEP. Existing text is not removed and no form field is added. The rotation flag and the title stay. This is not page numbers. Add page numbers and Page X of Y write at the bottom. Add watermark stamps a diagonal. This page writes only the typed header. Nothing is rasterized, and the site adds no watermark, logo, or trial line.
The header is drawn in this browser tab with the open-source workers. The PDF is not uploaded. There is no GridFS copy. Closing the tab drops the copy. The browser downloads headed.pdf. The Word page at /pdf-to-word uploads.
There is no page cap on this header. The tab has to hold the file. There is no account on this page. This page does not need a pass. A day pass is $6, charged once, for 24 hours, and it does not renew. A year is $60 for 365 days. Neither charge is required to add a header here. The 20-page server cap is not this tool. That cap belongs to PDF to Word, OCR, and heavy compress.
Empty bytes or a file that is not a PDF stop with "This PDF could not be read." No pages stops with "This PDF has no pages." A locked file stops with "Expected instance of PDFDict, but got instance of undefined". Unlock PDF is separate. A blank header stops with "Enter a header." More than 80 characters stops with "Use 80 characters or fewer."
Steps
- Drop the file. It stays in this tab.
- Set the one option on the page, if it has one.
- Download the result. Closing the tab drops the copy.
Questions
What does the header field accept?
A blank value fails with "Enter a header." More than 80 characters fails with "Use 80 characters or fewer." Helvetica at 12 points is black and upright. Tall pages use 36 under 72. A shorter page uses 8. Old text stays.
Is the PDF uploaded?
No. The draw runs in this tab. The file is not uploaded. Closing the tab drops the copy. You get headed.pdf. The Word page uploads.
Does existing text stay?
Yes. Existing text stays. The header is real text in Helvetica at 12 points, not a form field. The rotation flag stays and the glyphs stay upright.
Does this page need the $6 day pass?
No. A $6 day pass lasts 24 hours, is charged once, and does not renew. A $60 year lasts 365 days. Neither charge is required to add a header here. The 20-page server cap is not this tool.
