What this crop changes

Crop PDF takes one PDF and a number field labeled Trim in points. It is type=number and it starts at 0. The worker reads the crop box of every page. If the page has no crop box of its own, that read is the media box, and that rectangle is the one this tool insets. Each edge moves inward by the same whole number of points: left, right, bottom, and top. The new rectangle is written with setCropBox. The page is not redrawn, and content outside the box is not deleted. Hidden marks stay in the file, so this is not redaction. The download is one PDF named cropped.pdf. A trim of 0 leaves each crop box unchanged and still returns a PDF.

The inset runs in this browser tab. The file is not uploaded. There is no GridFS copy. Open the network panel, drop the file, set the trim, and the PDF should not appear as an upload. The browser offers cropped.pdf when the boxes are set. Closing the tab drops the copy.

There is no account and no published page cap on this local tool. The tab has to hold the file. The worker does not enforce a page cap. The 20-page server cap is not this tool. A day pass is $6 and does not renew. A year is $60. The $6 day pass and the $60 year are for server jobs, and this page does not need them. The free server file is PDF to Word, one file, up to 20 pages, and that page uploads. Crop is not that offer.

The trim must be a whole number of points, zero or greater. A fraction or a negative number fails with "Enter a whole number of points." If any page would have a width or a height of 1 point or less after the inset, the tool fails with "Leave at least one point of the page." No page is changed in that case. A file with no pages fails with "This PDF has no pages." Empty bytes, or a file that is not a PDF, fails with "This PDF could not be read." A locked PDF stops with "Expected instance of PDFDict, but got instance of undefined". This page does not ask for a password and does not guess one. Unlock PDF is the separate page.

Steps

  1. Drop the file. It stays in this tab.
  2. Set the one option on the page, if it has one.
  3. Download the result. Closing the tab drops the copy.

Questions

What does the trim change?

The crop box on every page, by the same number of points on every edge. The field starts at 0. A trim of 0 changes nothing and still returns cropped.pdf. A positive trim insets left, right, bottom, and top. Content outside the new box stays in the file. The tool does not delete it.

Does crop upload the PDF?

No. It runs in this tab. The file is not uploaded. There is no GridFS copy. Open the network panel, drop the file, and the PDF should not appear as an upload. Closing the tab drops the copy. You get one PDF named cropped.pdf. The 20-page server cap is not this tool.

Does crop remove the hidden marks?

No. This is not redaction. Marks outside the crop box stay in the file. A viewer may hide them, and the bytes are still there. The tool does not redraw the page and does not delete content outside the box.

Do I need a pass before I crop a file?

No. This local tool has no account and no published page cap. A day pass is $6 and does not renew. A year is $60. The $6 day pass and the $60 year are for server jobs, and this page does not need them. The 20-page server cap is not this tool.
