What this merge changes

Merge PDF joins the pages of the dropped PDFs in the order the files were chosen. It copies each page into one new PDF and leaves the pages of a file in the order that file already had. The first file you pick comes first. Each later file follows it. This page has no control for dragging a file above another after you choose them. Merge does not sort by name. It does not downsample pictures. A photo stays at the resolution it had. Selectable words stay selectable, because the page is copied, not redrawn as a picture. Merge does not invent a percentage and does not promise a smaller file. This is the page for combine PDF.

This merge runs in your browser, in this tab. Open the network panel, drop the files, and the PDFs should not appear as an upload. The files are not uploaded. Closing the tab drops the copy. The result has no PDF Commons watermark. The tool does not stamp its name on the pages. It does not make a Word file. The download from this form is a PDF named merged.pdf.

There is no account and no page cap on this local tool. We do not publish a page limit for merge. The tab has to hold the files. If the browser cannot keep them, the join cannot finish. A day pass is $6 and does not renew. A year is $60. Neither charge is required to merge here. The free server file is PDF to Word, one file, up to 20 pages, and that page uploads. Merge is not that server job.

An empty list fails. With no file chosen, the page asks you to choose a file, and merge refuses to run on nothing. A protected file you have not unlocked fails too. Merge does not know a password and will not guess one. Open Unlock PDF first, in this tab, and type the password you already know. Unlock PDF will not crack a password you do not have. Then drop the unlocked file with the others. The result is not a Word file, and it is not a smaller photo PDF. Merge does not downsample, so photo pages do not shrink. For size, use Compress PDF. For a Word file, use PDF to Word, the page that uploads.

Steps

  1. Drop the file. It stays in this tab.
  2. Set the one option on the page, if it has one.
  3. Download the result. Closing the tab drops the copy.

Questions

Which file comes first?

The files come out in the order you chose them. Pages inside each file stay in that file's order. There is no list here for moving a file up or down afterward. Choose again if the order is wrong. Merge does not sort by file name.

Does merge upload the PDFs?

No. It stays in this tab. Open the network panel and drop the files. The PDFs should not appear as an upload. Closing the tab drops the copy. A day pass or a year does not change that. PDF to Word is the page that uploads.

What if one PDF has a password?

Unlock it first in this tab, with the password you already know. Unlock PDF does that and does not crack a password. Drop the unlocked file here with the others. A file you have not unlocked cannot be joined. Merge will not try a password for you.

Do I need an account to merge?

No. This merge has no account. A day pass is $6 and does not renew. A year is $60. Neither charge is required here. Those prices are for server jobs. The free server file is one PDF to Word, up to 20 pages, and that page uploads.
