Questions about converting PDF to Word

Is my file safe to upload?

This tool uploads your PDF to our server. We delete the PDF and the Word file within 30 minutes. Our other PDF tools, like merge and compress, never upload your file.

What will the Word file contain?

The text from your PDF, one page at a time, ready to edit. Columns, fonts, and pictures are not copied. A scan has no text to take, so use OCR PDF first.

Does the day pass renew?

No. The day pass is $6, charged once, and ends 24 hours later. The year plan is $60, and we email you 7 days before it renews. You can buy either one on the pricing page. Pricing

How to convert a PDF to Word and edit the text

PDF to Word turns the text in your PDF into a Word file (.docx) that you can edit. The file keeps your PDF's name, with .docx at the end. If the PDF has no name, you get document.docx. Each PDF page starts on a new page in Word, and each line of text becomes a paragraph. The words stay in reading order. Columns, fonts, and pictures are not copied, so expect to restyle the result. You get a Word file, not a new PDF.

This tool uploads your PDF to our server, builds the Word file there, and sends it back as your download. We delete both your PDF and the Word file within 30 minutes. Most other tools on this site, like merge, compress, and watermark, never upload your file. Your first file needs no sign-up. For later files, the page offers a pass, or you can sign in to the account that has one.

Each file can have up to 20 pages. This is the same for the free file and for paid files, and a pass does not raise it. If your file is longer, you will see "This conversion stops at 20 pages." Split it into smaller parts with Split PDF, then convert each part. Your first PDF to Word file from each network (your home or office internet connection) is free, with no card. After that, you need a $6 day pass or the $60 year. The day pass is charged once, lasts 24 hours, and does not renew. The year is $60, and we email you 7 days before it renews. There is no monthly plan.

Why won't my PDF convert? If the PDF has no text you can select, such as a scan, the tool stops and tells you a scan needs OCR. This page does not do OCR, so try OCR PDF first. If the file is not a PDF, has no pages, or cannot be opened, the page tells you. Try another copy. If the file has more than 20 pages, you will see "This conversion stops at 20 pages." Split it first with Split PDF. After your free file, the page asks you to get a pass or sign in to the account that has one. If our server cannot take files right now, try again later. The tools that run in your browser are not affected.

Is PDF to Word really free?

Your first file is free. That is one PDF to Word conversion from each network, up to 20 pages, with no card and no sign-up. For the next file, you need a $6 day pass or the $60 year. Buy one on this page and you come straight back here, signed in. On another device, sign in with the email you paid with.

Can I convert a scanned PDF to Word?

Not directly. A scan is a picture of a page, so this tool has no text to take and will tell you it needs OCR. OCR (optical character recognition) reads the letters in a picture. OCR PDF is a separate tool. It uploads your file and needs a $6 day pass or the $60 year. OCR is never free.

Does a pass raise the 20-page limit?

No. Every file on this page can have up to 20 pages, whether it is free or paid. A longer file shows "This conversion stops at 20 pages." To convert a longer PDF, split it into parts of 20 pages or fewer with Split PDF, then convert each part.

How long do you keep my file?

Not long. We keep your PDF and the Word file only so we can send you the result. We delete both within 30 minutes.
