How to add bookmarks to a PDF

Bookmarks let readers jump to a page from the side panel of their PDF reader. This tool adds one bookmark for every page. They are numbered in order, starting with Page 1, and each one opens its own page. There is nothing to type or choose. Add your file and download bookmarked.pdf. If your PDF already has bookmarks, they are replaced by the new list, so the old names are gone. The pages, text, links, title and page size stay the same. Text stays selectable. Your original file is not changed. To clear bookmarks without adding new ones, use Remove bookmarks from PDF. This is handy for a long scan or report that has no bookmarks, because readers can jump straight to any page.

Your file stays on your device. It's never uploaded, and we never see it. Nothing is sent to us, so it is fine for private or work files. Your browser saves the result as bookmarked.pdf. Close the page and that copy is gone.

There is no page limit. It works the same on a one-page file and a long report. Very large files depend on your device's memory. You don't need an account, and there is no daily limit and no watermark. Do as many files as you like, one after another.

Password-protected? Unlock it first with Unlock PDF, then try again. If the file won't open, it may be damaged or may not be a PDF. Try another copy. Large files can take a few seconds to open. A one-page file gets one bookmark, named Page 1. Still stuck? Open the saved file in another PDF reader to check it.

How to use this tool

  1. Choose your file. It never leaves your device.
  2. Pick a setting, if the page has one.
  3. Download your new file.
