How to add a border to a PDF

Add a border draws a thin black frame around every page of your PDF. There is nothing to set. The frame is a one-point black line, and it sits half an inch inside the edge of the page. That keeps it away from the very edge, where many printers cut it off. The size and thickness are fixed, so every page gets the same frame. Your pages stay as they are. The text and pictures on them are kept, the page size and page count stay the same, and nothing is turned into a picture. The border is a drawn line, not a form field. If your page is one inch or less across or tall, the frame would have no room, so the tool stops. You get one file named bordered.pdf, and your original is not changed. To trim a page instead, use Crop PDF.

Your PDF stays on your device. It's never uploaded, and you don't need to share an email address. Your browser makes the new file and saves it as bordered.pdf. When you close the page, nothing is left behind.

Adding a border is free. There's no account, no page limit, and no watermark. Very large files depend on your device's memory, so a huge PDF may not open. The border has one size and one thickness, so you can't change them here.

If a page is one inch or less across or tall, you'll be told to leave more of the page, because the frame needs room. If your PDF won't open, it may be damaged or may not be a real PDF. Try another copy. If it has no pages, there is nothing to frame, so try a different file. Password-protected? It won't open here. Unlock it first with Unlock PDF, then try again.
