How to add a header to a PDF

Add a header puts one line of text at the top center of every page. Type up to 80 characters, like a title or a case name. Extra spaces at the start and end are removed. The same line goes on every page, in plain black 12-point text, about half an inch down from the top. If a page was rotated, the header still goes at the top as you see it. Your pages stay as they are, and the text already on them is kept. The header is real text, so you can select and search it. This tool writes only the words you type. For page numbers, use Add page numbers or Page X of Y. You get one file named headed.pdf, and your original is not changed. We add no logo or watermark.

Your PDF stays on your device. It's never uploaded, and you don't need to share an email address. Your browser makes the new file and saves it as headed.pdf. When you close the page, nothing is left behind. Your header text stays on your device too.

Add a header is free. There's no account, no page limit, and no watermark. Very large files depend on your device's memory, so a huge PDF may not open. The header can be up to 80 characters long.

If the header box is empty, you'll be asked to type something. If it is longer than 80 characters, shorten it and try again. If your PDF won't open, it may be damaged or may not be a real PDF. Try another copy. Password-protected? It won't open here. Unlock it first with Unlock PDF, then try again.

One line of text, up to 80 characters, such as a title, a date, or a case name. Spaces at the start and end are removed. The line is black 12-point text, centered at the top of every page.

Is my PDF uploaded when I add a header?

No. Your file stays on your device. It's never uploaded. Your header text stays private too. You get headed.pdf as a download, and your original file is not changed.

Will the text already on my pages stay?
