How to add keywords to a PDF
Keywords are search words saved inside a PDF, such as "budget, 2026, client". Many PDF readers show them in Document Properties. Type your keywords as one line. This tool saves that line exactly as you typed it, with spaces at the start and end trimmed, up to 200 characters. It replaces any keywords already in the file. The title, author, subject and dates stay as they were. So do the pages, text and links. Text stays selectable, and nothing is turned into a picture. You download keywords.pdf. Your original file is not changed. Some PDFs keep a second copy of these details in extra hidden data. This tool does not change that copy. Good keywords help you find the file again in a folder or document library that reads them.
Your file stays on your device. It's never uploaded, and we never see it. The keywords you type are not sent anywhere either. Nothing is sent to us, so it is fine for private or work files. Your browser saves the result as keywords.pdf. Close the page and that copy is gone.
There is no page limit. It works the same on a one-page file and a long report. Very large files depend on your device's memory. You don't need an account, and there is no daily limit and no watermark. Do as many files as you like, one after another.
Leave the box empty and you'll be asked to type keywords. A line over 200 characters needs to be shortened. Password-protected? Unlock it first with Unlock PDF, then try again. If the file won't open, it may be damaged or may not be a PDF. Try another copy. Large files can take a few seconds to open. Still stuck? Open the saved file in another PDF reader to check it.
How to use this tool
